Calling all creatives to come celebrate the launch of a new reading and open mic series at the historic Holyoke Building in downtown Seattle. Featuring local authors Randy Shinn, Sarah C. Townsend, Ginna Richardson Luck, and Tristan Beach, this first ever event casts a spotlight on the timeless lyric, how it connects riverlike across genre and form.Â
The open mic to follow is first come, first served, and all literary genres are welcome. Please feel free to riff on the evening’s theme in your reading. Light snacks and refreshments provided. No cover charge.
Tristan is the poetry editor for Pif Magazine and a facilitator for Writing on Water. From 2014 to 2017, Tristan taught English across China. Before that, he was a long-time editor with Conium Review and has been involved with a number of journals and presses, including Copper Canyon Press, Coffee House Press, Pitkin Review, and Clockhouse. He teaches at Saint Martin’s University, in Lacey, WA and has an MFA from Goddard College. His writings appear in Pif Magazine, Shantih, rawboned, and Pitkin Review.
Sarah Townsend is the author of Setting the Wire: A Memoir of Postpartum Psychosis (The Lettered Streets Press, 2019). Sarah received her MFA from Goddard College, her MA in counseling psychology from Northwestern University, and is a graduate of the College of Letters at Wesleyan University. Setting the Wire has been featured on Beyond Well with Sheila Hamilton, The Ish with Cameron Dezen Hammon, and in the Chicago Review of Books. Ginna Luck's poems have appeared in, or are forthcoming in, Radar Poetry, Gone Lawn, Hermeneutic Chaos Journal, Rust + Moth, Leveler Poetry, Up The Staircase Quarterly and others. She has been nominated for two Pushcart Prizes. She earned her MFA from Goddard College. Her first full-length collection of poetry is forthcoming from Finishing Line Press in February of 2020. She currently lives in the Seattle area with her family.
Randy Shinn is a Community Lead in Operations for WeWork in Seattle. Randy holds an MFA in Creative Writing from Goddard College and is an award winning slam poet. His work has appeared in the Anchorage Art Museum, Ocho, Trillium, Bricolage, many rejection letters, and online. Randy is actively sending out his first full length poetry collection/hybrid text.
